Each day shows a little improvement.
The CT scan on Lorie's brain revealed swelling which is another reason why she's not waking up. The neurologist said it would probably be at least a week before they knew anything more. The infection she has is a staph infection which invades every major organ in the body, including the brain. Unlike an infection like pneumonia or something a staph infection requires multiple antibiotics as each area of the body requires a different one to fight the infection. Some of her organs are beginning to work again which is a very good sign. I was teasing her this morning that we needed her to help clean the storage closet because she's always in charge of that. She started shaking. I told her I was only joking! They are playing her favorite music all day for her to listen to. We have a picture of her and her new baby on the wall in front of her so it's the first thing she'll see when she wakes up. They are bringing her new baby up today in hopes the sound of the baby might wake her up. They advised against bringing Faith (her 14 month old) to see her because it would be too traumatic for her.
Lorie's color is good. Her vital signs are stable, and much of the swelling in her body has gone down. Each day shows a little improvement. She has a long way to go and is by no means out of the woods. Thanks again for your prayers and outpouring of concern and support. Keep 'em coming!
Yvonne
